Descriptions : Vine; stems and much of plant with appressed hairs; stipules with appressed hairs; leaves alternate, pinnately compound with 3 leaflets; petiole and rachis with appressed hairs; rachis between 2 lateral leaflets and terminal leaflet sulcate; leaflets with appressed hairs on upper and lower surfaces; stipels present; terminal leaflet ovate or trullate, apex apiculate; lateral leaflets rounded triangular, with the primary vein nearer to medial part of leaf, apex apiculate; inflorescence axillary, hanging, raceme-like, with 3 flowers per node; flower shortly pedicellate; calyx hairy outside, seemingly 4-lobed, because 2 upper lobes are connate; standard ovate, keeled, with 2 thickenings, purple and greenish, smaller than wings; wings 2, unevenly spathulate, with auricle, dark purple; keel petals 2, with curved beak surrounding androecium and style and stigma, dark purple; stamens diadelphous (9 + 1); 9 stamens with free part of filaments alternatingly thick and thin; ovary hairy, slightly curved, cylindrical; style filiform, with upward-pointing short bristles on most of length, except distal part, which is glabrous; stigma small, terminal, button-like; fruit with stinging bristles.
