Descriptions :
Herb Prostrate herb, rooting at nodes, finally ascending; stem with erect hairs; leaves alternate, petiole sheathing, usually fused around stem basally or torn; blade ovate, with erect hairs on both surfaces; inflorescence with conduplicate bract, fused on adaxial margin; 2 peduncles, 1 with a single pedicelled flower, the other with 3 pedicelled flowers or scars of pedicels; sepals 3, free purple, the upper smaller; petals 3, purple, the lower smaller; distinct claws, especially 2 upper petals; stamens 2, large, filament purple, glabrous, anther purple and white; staminodes 4, 3 smaller, 1 larger; filament purple, glabrous, anther yellow, presumably sterile; ovary trigonous, green, glabrous; style purple, glabrous; stigma small, at tip of style, purple.
