Shrub Scandent shrub; stems with retrorse prickles; leaves alternate, compound with 6-8 pairs of pinnae; petiole long, 4-angled, with retrorse prickles and some erect hairs; rachis with some hairs and prickles; leaflets sparsely hairy on both surfaces, many per pinna, narrowly oblong; apex rounded, shortly apiculate; base unequal; inflorescence axillary, pedunculate, ball-like; flower very shortly pedicellate; calyx very small; corolla ± obconical, connate approximately half-way, 4-lobed, green with dark red on lobes; stamens 8, free, with long pink filiform filaments, green anthers; ovary fusiform, style pinkish, filiform, stigma small; fruit narrowly oblong, curved, somewhat flattened, with hairy and retrorse spines; seeds (4-) 5 (-6).
