Descriptions : Grass, with upright stems; sheath terete, glabrous; ligule rather broad, but breaks into row of bristles when teased; blade on upper surface with long hairs just distal to ligule; nodes with dense ring of hairs; inflorescence a raceme-like arrangement of racemes on erect main axis; racemes as few as 1 or 2 or up to approximately 14; base of raceme swollen, hairy, lower part without spikelets; raceme with many appressed spikelets on all sides of rachis, spikelets dorsally compressed, in pairs, 1 sessile, 1 pedicellate; rachis articulated, with long hairs; sessile spikelet: glume 1 (G1) equal in size to spikelet, folded in at margin, with long hairs on outside; glume 2 (G2) equal in size to spikelet, with some hairs on outside; lemma 1 (L1) membranous, smaller than G1 and G2; palea 1 (P1) lacking?; lemma 2 (L2) small, membranous with a long awn; palea 2 (P2) lacking?; flower: ovary with 2 plumose stigmas; stamens 2; pedicelled spikelet: long hairs in 2 rows on pedicel; glume 1 (G1) hairy outside; glume 2( G2) present; lemma 1 (L1) smaller than glumes, membranous; palea 1 (P1) lacking?; flower seems aborted.
