Descriptions : Grass; leaf mostly glabrous; ligule membranous; hairs attached to inside of blade immediately above ligule; blade tapering; inflorescence of 2-4 racemes arising from main axis; rachis of raceme flattened; raceme secund; single, shortly pedicelled spikelets alternating on abaxial side of rachis, with spikelets impressed into rachis; spikelet broadly elliptic, compressed dorsoventrally; glume 1 (G1) lacking; glume 2 (G2) equal in size to spikelet, with 5 veins; lemma 1 (L1) approximately equal in size and shape to G2, with 7 veins; palea 1 (P1) lacking; lemma 2 (L2) and palea 2 (P2) shiny, hard, glabrous; stamens 3, purple; ovary with 2 yellowish or white plumose stigmeas.
