Descriptions :
Grass Upright grass, up to 114 cm or more tall; sheath with long, erect hairs on outside; ligule membranous; blade tapering, up to 9 mm wide, with only a few hairs; inflorescence of several racemes arising from a short axis, 2-4 lowest racemes ± digitately arranged, with approximately 2-5 more racemes arising higher on the short axis; spikelets in pairs, the pairs alternate on abaxial side of rachis of raceme, thus secund, except single spikelet at tip of raceme; each pair with short pedicel and longer pedicel; spikelet on shorter pedicel flattened dorsally, approximately 3.2-3.5 mm long; glume 1 (G1) very small, triangular; glume 2 (G2) with 3 veins, hairy outside, approximately one half length of spikelet; lemma 1 (L1) with pointed apex, 7 nerves, hairy, except glabrous between midvein and veins on either side; flower lacking; palea 1 (P1) very tiny; L2 partly wrapped around P2, both L2 and P2 a littled hardened, glabrous; flower bisexual; stamens 3; ovary with 2 plumose stigmas; spikelet of pair on longer pedicel similar to other spikelet of pair except flower in second floret sometimes unisexual or lacking.
