Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) was founded as a university specialized in science and technology in 1990. It is Thailand's first state autonomous university, which has its own systems of administration, finance, academic affairs, and general management. Important principles of the autonomous university are high levels of independence, flexibility and efficiency for all missions.

SUT offers 23 undergraduate programs in engineering, agricultural technology, medicine, social technology and health sciences. The university also offers 22 graduate programs in conformance with the university's mission to produce highly qualified scientific and technological personnel. At present, there are about 7,245 undergraduate students, 615 graduate students, 254 academic staff and 623 support staff.



SUT is located in Nakhon Ratchasima province, about 260 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. The campus is situated about 15 kilometers southeast of downtown Nakhon Ratchasima and covers a sizeable 1,120 hectares, including academic zone, Technopolis, residential facilities for staff and students, the Surasammanakhan Convention Center and the university farm. There are university facilities to support student's academic needs and enhance the student's quality of life. The university facilities include the Center for Library Resources and Educational Media, the Center for Computer Services, the Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment, the Center for Education Services, the Institute of Research and Development, the Education Media Development and Production Unit, the Sport and Health Center, university dormitories, a medical clinic, the CU & SUT Book Center, a bank, a post office, convenience stores, and free transportation on campus.

SUT bases its academic year on three trimesters of thirteen weeks duration each. Courses start late in May and finish at the beginning of April each year with two short breaks and one long break between terms.
